A PASSAIC COUNTY CASA VOLUNTEER IN HIS OWN WORDS

This year, a significant portion of the funds raised at the Pequannock Valley Rotary Charity Golf Outing held earlier this month was dedicated to CASA of Passaic County.  A new video premiered at this past Friday’s CASA “Voices for Children Gala” featuring three advocates who shared their experiences working on behalf of children in foster care and the impact they’ve had. Our PV Rotary President John Driesse was one of three advocates spotlighted.

CASA: David entered foster care, his aunt refused to care for him when his mental health concerns caused him to have behavioral issues at home.

JOHN DRIESSE: I believe he was 12 when he first entered into foster care due to behavioral issues at home and with the family environment that he was living at the time, so he acted out of it and that’s how he got into this. I felt a little bit concerned when I first heard the details of the story, just because of some of the circumstances surrounding it. The most important thing I think I’ve done for him is just being a different voice for him, outside of his family, outside the division of lawyers and caseworkers

CASA: After 4 years in group homes and residential facilities, this month David went home to his biological parents with the help of CASA
.
JOHN DRIESSE: Even when my term of office [as a Passaic County Court Appointed Special Advocate] is over, I told him that, “Hey, you have my number if you need something, call me.”
